What is characterization?Characterization refers to how people are portrayed in dramatic and literary works. Character development is occasionally used interchangeably.
This portrayal may employ direct techniques, such as attributing qualities in remark or description, as well as indirect techniques that ask readers to draw conclusions about a character's traits based on their behavior, speech, or appearance. A character is a personage like that.
The 19th century saw the invention of the word "characterization." In his Poetics, Aristotle argued that tragedy "is a portrayal, not of men, but of action and life," and hence he championed the priority of plot above individuals, i.e., a plot-driven narrative.
The primacy of the character, or a character-driven story, was confirmed first with the realist book in the 19th century, which led to the opposite of this perspective.
Mythological characters have been characterized as formulaic and as belonging to a categorization made up of a variety of distinct, constrained archetypes, or a sort of component.

Read the counterclaim in an argumentative essay about the benefits of participating in marching band. Some people claim that the only benefit of marching band is learning to play an instrument. Which rebuttal best addresses the counterclaim? A. however, learning to play an instrument is not necessarily important for every student. B. however, learning to play an instrument has been proven to improve grades and test performance. C. however, most marching band members also get a great amount of exercise and establish lifelong friendships, D. however, most marching band members learn to play only one instrument during their band years
Answer:
B. However, learning to play an instrument has been proven to improve grades and test performance.
Explanation:
A counterclaim is a claim used to rebut a previous claim. The counterclaim shown in this example is that some people claim that the only benefit of a marching band is learning to play an instrument.
Our task is to determine which claim most successfully rebuts this one. The best option is option B. Our claim needs to contain evidence that participants of marching bands can benefit from them even more than learning to play an instrument. According to this option, the participants get better grades and perform better on tests. The important aspect of this statement is that this has been scientifically proven, which makes it reliable.
The second best option is option C, because it also contains the benefits of marching bands. However, it doesn't contain any scientific evidence.
Options A and D don't contain any benefits, which makes them incorrect.
Answer:
C. The answer is C. however, most marching band members also get a great amount of exercise and establish lifelong friendships.
Explanation:

When is it appropriate to make a sacrifice? Write a paragraph and give an example. 20 points
Answer:
Sacrifice sentence examples. I admire the effort and sacrifice you put into it. This sacrifice was the least he could do for his friend. It also told me he was willing to make a sacrifice for her protection.
Explanation:
In Old Testament times, ‘living sacrifice’ would be a contradiction in terms. The whole point of the sacrifice was that it was killed. Jago Wynne writes, ‘Our act of worship is no longer to bring a sacrifice, but to be one ourselves. We remain living. It is all of us that is being offered. Worship is about what I say with my tongue. It’s about what I watch… what I think… where I go with my feet.’
The sacrifice of your ‘loot’
Generous giving is another New Testament sacrifice. Paul encourages the sacrifice of generosity in contributing to the needs of others (v.8). We are to ‘share with God’s people who are in need’ (v.13). This is another sacrifice the writer of Hebrews says pleases God: ‘to share with others’ (Hebrews 13:16).
We are even to give generously to our enemies: ‘Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness’ (Romans 12:20, MSG).
Sacrifice of your love
In this passage Paul gives many examples of the sacrifice of loving service (vv.9–21).
The writer of Hebrews says, ‘do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased’ (Hebrews 13:16).
‘Doing good’ means giving up things that are not good. ‘Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould’ (Romans 12:2, J.B. Phillips). Although God only asks us to give up the bad stuff in our lives, it can feel costly to do so because that stuff is superficially attractive. Repentance is a very positive word, but at the time it may seem sacrificial.
Sacrificial love involves allowing God to transform us by a complete change. Our love must be sincere (v.9). The Greek word for ‘sincere’ means ‘without hypocrisy’ or literally ‘without play acting’ or ‘without a mask’.
Often relationships in the world are quite superficial. We all put up fronts or masks to protect ourselves. When we see governments doing this, we call it ‘spin’. When we do it ourselves, we call it ‘image’; we are projecting something. In effect we’re saying, ‘I don’t really like what I am inside, so I will pretend I am somebody different.’ I certainly did this in a major way before I was a Christian (and it carries on to some extent afterwards – though it shouldn’t).
If other people are doing the same then there are two ‘fronts’ or ‘masks’ meeting. The sad result is that the two real people never meet. This is the opposite of ‘sincere love’. Sincere love means taking off your mask and daring to reveal who you are. When you know that God loves you as you are, you are set free to take off your mask. This means that there is a completely new depth and authenticity in your relationships.
Paul urges Christians to live in harmony with one another and to be generous (v.13), hospitable (v.13), forgiving (v.14), empathetic (v.15) and to live at peace with everyone (v.18). It is a glorious picture of the Christian family into which God calls us, beckoning us into an atmosphere of love, joy, patience, faithfulness, generosity, hospitality, blessing, rejoicing, harmony, humility and peace; where good is not overcome by evil, but evil is overcome by good
The narrator claims to have several qualities that insane people don't have. Circle the qualities that he mentions. In your opinion, does having those qualities prove his sanity- or not? This is for The Tell Tale Heart:
Answer:
He says that he is cunning and that he acts wisely, as well as saying that he knows what he is doing. These are characteristics that he claims that crazy people don't have.
Explanation:
The narrator of "The Tell Tale Heart" exhibits strange, uncomfortable and crazy behavior in his murder plans and even the reasons for the murder make the reader see him as crazy. However, this is not what the narrator wants. He wants everything he says to be taken seriously by the reader and for this reason, he says that he has characteristics that crazy people cannot be astute, act wisely and know what he is doing.
This does not justify the narrator's sanity.
Read the passage. What is a similarity between the narrator and her best friend, Karen?
Karen and I had been best friends since first grade. But I was a little jealous of her. Karen always seemed smarter and prettier than everyone. One day, we both put our names in for a dance contest. I practiced hard for weeks. I wanted to win the dance contest and beat Karen. On the day of the contest, I went on stage. I danced like I’d never danced in my life. The crowd clapped loudly. Then it was Karen’s turn. She missed some steps and even lost her balance at one point. I knew something was wrong—Karen was no klutz. I ended up winning the contest, but that didn’t even matter to me anymore. After the contest, I ran to Karen and asked her what was wrong. Karen told me that she had been dancing with a sprained ankle. I asked her why she did it. Karen looked ashamed. Then she said, “Because I wanted to beat you and prove that I’m just as good as you!” I was shocked. Here I was so jealous of her, and she wanted to beat me so badly that she went on stage with a sprained ankle!
A.
Karen and the narrator both enter the contest for fun.
B.
Karen and the narrator both deal with jealousy.
C.
Karen and the narrator are both trained dancers.
D.
Karen and the narrator both have sprained ankles.
E.
