Answer:
See the answer below
Explanation:
The discovery of Gram staining has revolutionized how microbes, especially bacteria, are classified. Bacteria that are positive for Gram staining are classified as Gram-positive while those that are negative to the procedure are termed Gram-negative.
What constitutes positivity or negativity to the Gram staining procedure is the ability of the cell walls of bacteria to either retain a dye or allow it to be washed off during the procedure. The components of the cell wall differentiate Gram-positive bacteria from the Gram-negative ones and confer the ability to retain dye on the former. Gram-positive bacteria have thick peptidoglycan cell walls and lower lipid contents as compared to the Gram-negative bacteria and with this, they are able to retain the color of the stain used during the Gram staining procedure.
During the Gram staining, a scoop of the bacterial isolate is usually smeared and heat-fixed to a glass slide. Thereafter, crystal violet drops are added to the slide, poured off, and then rinsed with water. A few drops of iodine are then added and allowed to stay for a few seconds before being poured off and rinsed. A decolorizer (an alcohol) is then added to the slide, allowed to stay for a few seconds before it is washed off. The addition of a counterstain follows and the slide is allowed to stay for another few seconds before the stain is washed off. The slide is then rid of water and then viewed under the microscope. A Gram-positive bacterium will able to retain the color of the dye which is purple while a negative bacterium will lose the color of the dye and appear red under the microscope.

what change in a population would you expect to see if a selection pressure was against the traits of the dominant allele?
The change in population in the given condition would be an increase of true recessive traits in the population and there would be only a few individuals with dominant traits.
In case of selection pressure was against the dominant trait, then individuals of the population who have true recessive alleles would have an advantage over the heterozygous and dominant individuals of the population.
There would be very few individuals carrying its dominant genotype and it may eventually be extinct, however, it would be still dominant. The recessive trait would just become more prominent rather than becoming dominant.
Thus, the number of recessive traits would increase in population, and the number of dominant decrease to numbers.

Decrease occur in the population of dominant allele occurs.
Change in a population of dominant allele occurs if a selection pressure was against the traits of the dominant allele because the selection pressure is against the dominant allele that leads to appearance of recessive allele and disappearance of dominant allele. The selection pressure is responsible for the appearance of allele in the offspring so we can conclude that dominant allele is decreases in the population of the future generation.

A lamp that plugs into a wall socket draws energy which flows through a thin wire in the bulb causing it to glow. What energy transformation are taking place?
choices:
Chemical>light>electrical
Mechanical>sound>light
Thermal>solar>electrical
Electrical>thermal>light
Answer:
Electrical>thermal>light
Explanation:
Electrical energy refers to energy which is gotten from potential energy. This energy source could be a wall socket.
Thermal energy on the other hand refers to internal energy of a system where temperature is constant.
Light energy is made up of photons which transmits electromagnetic radiation which move in waves and become visible to human eye.
Therefore, the energy transformation taking place according to the question is option D.

E. coli Is a species of bacteria that causes many different Infections in humans. Certain E. coli strains have developed resistance to antibiotics,
making Infections with these strains difficult to treat. How do bacteria such as E. coll, which reproduce asexually, galn new tralts such as
antibiotic resistance?
O A. by adapting to changes in environmental conditions without undergoing changes in their DNA
OB. by mutating their DNA in response to environmental conditions to gain beneficial traits
OC. by undergoing spontaneous mutations when they replicate, which increases genetic variation in a population
OD. by producing offspring with new gene assortments from genetic recombination, which increases diversity in a population
Answer:
The correct answer would be B
Explanation:
Antibiotic resistance in bacteria develops in response to the environment in which the bacteria survives.
The antimicrobial resistance trait is acquired by any species of bacteria through one of the two ways that are either by making changes in their DNA sequences or through horizontal gene transfer mechanisms.
In the given E. coli gained the trait to develop resistance against antibiotic by making changes in their DNA as once the gene is altered or mutated, the trait can be passed on to the offsprings.
Therefore, Option-B is the correct answer.
Answer:
B. By mutating their DNA in response to environmental conditions to gain beneficial traits
Explanation:
Through the process of natural selection, bacteria such as E coli can gain new traits that benefit them.
This can occur when a DNA mutation occurs, where the mutated gene is actually beneficial to respond to environmental conditions.
Then, these bacteria with the gene will survive and produce more offspring with the same gene. This is how E coli can develop antibiotic resistance.
So, B is the correct answer.

Answer:
The cell membrane is the semipermeable membrane of a cell that surrounds and encloses its contents of cytoplasm and nucleoplasm. The cell membrane separates the cell from the surrounding interstitial fluid, the main component of the extracellular fluid.
Explanation:
Unicellular organisms are made up of only one cell that carries out all of the functions needed by the organism, while multicellular organisms use many different cells to function. ... Multicellular organisms are composed of more than one cell, with groups of cells differentiating to take on specialized functions

What is an equinox and when does it happen?
An equinox is commonly regarded as the instant of time when the plane (extended indefinitely in all directions) of Earth 's equator passes through the center of the Sun. This occurs twice each year: around 20 March and 23 September.
Answer:
An Equinox is commonly regarded as the instant of time when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the geometric center of the Sun's disk. This occurs twice each year, around 20 March and 23 September. In other words, it is the moment at which the center of the visible Sun is directly above the equator.

In passive transport, molecules move__ the concentration gradient.
Answer:
In passive transport, molecules move with the concentraction gradient.
Explanation:
If molecules moved against it would be active transport.
Passive transportation has been defined as the mode of molecule movement across the semi-permeable membrane. "In passive transport, molecules move down the concentration gradient."
What is passive transport?Passive transport has been the mode of movement of the ions and molecules from the exterior and interior of the cell through the plasma membrane. This mode of transportation has been characterized by the movement of the ions from the region of a higher electrochemical gradient.
The ions tend to move towards the region that lacks the electrochemical gradient, hence it is a movement in the direction of the lower concentration. The solute particles do not external source of energy to drive the movement from higher concentration areas.
It is a type of diffusion that uses the law of Thermodynamics to move the ions up and down the cell concentration. The movement of the oxygen gas in the body cells is an example of passive transportation.
Therefore, the ions move down the concentration gradient in the passive transport.

O animal; 3X salt solution
O plant; pure water
O animal; pure water
O plant; 3X salt solution
Answer:
Plasmolysis occurs when a plant cell is inmersed in a 3X salt solution.
Explanation:
Plasmolysis is a phenomenon only observed in plant cells, and consists of cell dehydration accompanied by separation of the membrane and cell wall when the cell is exposed in a hypertonic environment.
When a plant cell is in a hypertonic solution —such as 3X salt solution— the permeability of its membrane allows water to escape, so the cell dehydrates and reduces its size. The cell wall is rigid and maintains its shape, but the cell membrane separates from it, which is known as plamolysis.
The other alternative answer combinations are not correct because:

Think and discuss:Suppose you are a farmer trying to grow plants in a greenhouse. Why would it be important to know what the limiting factor is
Answer:
Because limiting factors affect plant growth
Explanation:
A limiting factor is a condition that limits the population's growth in an ecosystem by slowing or stopping its growth. These factors are generated by the lack or excess of a particular resource. In plants, limiting factors include, among others, light, water, temperature, oxygen, food, (i.e., nutrients and minerals), space, etc. In this case, the farmer must know which greenhouse conditions are limiting factors in order to ensure the survival and optimal development of the plant population.
