Interpreting a Weather Map
Since there is a lot of information to display but not a lot of room, symbols are used on weather maps to convey information. You have seen some of these symbols already.

On this map, H and L are used to show areas of high and low pressure. The isobars, or lines around them, connect areas of equal pressure. Isobars look a lot like contour lines on topographic maps, but isobars connect areas of equal air pressures instead of elevation.

Notice that around the center of an L, pressure increases as the bars move away from the center. It’s the opposite around an H; pressure decreases farther away from the center.

He encourages individuals to follow their own individual will instead of conforming to social expectations. He posits that what one must do is what concerns that individual and not what the people think.Know your worth: He advises that a man should know his worth and as a result learn to put things under his feet. He wants each individual to be in control of things around him.Self-Reliance, a tool for revolution: Emerson reveals that self-reliance must work a revolution in all the offices and relations of men.

Scan the first three stanzas of Kipling’s poem. What language has McNeill borrowed from Kipling? How does he use irony as a literary device in this poem?

Answers

McNeill used the same persuasive language as Kipling, but he did so ironically, presenting sentences contrary to Kipling's and satirizing what he had presented.

We can arrive at this answer because:

McNeill wrote "The Poor Man's Burden" as a satire on "The White Man's Burden," written by Kipling. In Kipling's poem imperialism is shown as a sacrifice that white men must make so that they can bring civility and order to other people. In "The Poor Man's Burden" imperialism is presented as an excuse for white men to be abusive, usurping, and cruel. Both poems use pervasive language to convince readers of their position.

Furthermore, McNeill satirizes the defense of imperialism shown in Kipling's poem, writing contrary sentences that show the white man as someone to be pitied and irrelevant.

Think about the things you do on a regular basis. What values are reflected in your daily activities?

Answers

Answer:

I value saving the planet, health, nature, being able to care of myself and my loved ones, having security, independence, kindness, and serenity.

I reflect these values by living a frugal lifestyle, saving my money so that I can have enough to take care of myself and my family no matter what life throws our way.

I also do my best to leave a low (carbon) footprint on the world with my lifestyle. Frugal living goes hand-in-hand with this. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Eating a vegan diet reflects these values as well, as I feel it is the optimum diet for good health and is also easier on the planet and of course is kinder to the animals we share our world with. I am very much against big agra farming and especially CAFO farming for animal meat.

To this end I grow as many of our own vegetables as I can and I shop local as much as possible. This is better for our own health and the health of planet Earth.

I try to live a very simple life filled with family, and abundance of good, fresh food, and enough savings to feel comfortable and secure. And that is how I try to to align my values with my daily life.

Select the correct text in the passage.
A writer is using the following excerpt to write a paper about variety in bird species:

excerpt adapted from What Is That Bird?
by the US Fish and Wildlife Service

Learning the basic form and structure, or morphology, of a bird will help you to make comparisons of birds. Concentrate on the shape and size of the beak, including the relative size of the upper and lower beak; length of the outer tail feathers, upper flight feathers, and throat; and the coloration of the crown and breast. It will also help you to think about the types of habitat in which you are most likely to find specific birds, since the birds that you see may be migratory and will only be in your area at a specific time of the year.

Which sentence should the writer revise to include an in-text citation?

these are the answer choices

Bird-watching novices might be impressed by just how many different species of birds there are. Birds come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colors. Some of the most important bird features include the shape of the beak, the length of various feathers, and the coloration of the bird’s crown. Bird biology has a lot to do with these differing characteristics, since most bird features serve at least one purpose in the animals’ lives.

Answers

The sentence that the writer should revise to include an in-text citation is C. Some of the most important bird features include the shape of the beak, the length of various feathers, and the coloration of the bird’s crown.

What is an In-Text Citation?

This refers to the type of citation that is used to show the source of information in the research text.

Hence, we can see that from the given text, there is the narration by the narrator, giving the characteristics of birds and how they can be easily identified.

Therefore, it can be noted that option C contains the words of the narrator from the text and needs to be revised to include an in-text citation to avoid plagiarism.
