Little Alice sat by the riverbank listening to her eldest sister read a picture–less book. Inattentive, Alice daydreamed about picking daisies. It is a metaphor because he isn’t actually showing her a new world, but her life has changed dramatically and he compares that to being shown a wholly different world.
