She stares at her ceiling once again with hundred thoughts "Maybe he knows who I am, probably not" She walks down the hall with her head down low scared to meet his eyes.
Even when she hears his voice she's swarmed with butterflies, it's impossible to get you off my mind. I think about hundred thoughts and you are 99. I've understood that you will never be mine and that's fine I'm just breaking inside. He always walks the crowded halls and is blinded by this light: A girl who keeps her head down low and never shows her eyes. He's tried to talk to her but there's no easy way because every time he raises his voice she runs away. It's impossible to get you off my mind, I think about hundred thoughts and you are 99. I've understood that you will never be mine and that's fine I'm just breaking inside. One day maybe she'll stay and start to head over his way and one day she'll look into his eyes, and instead of breaking she'll call him "mine."
One day he'll grab her by the waist and force them to meet face to face and one day he'll look into her eyes and say that "you're my only light." It's impossible to get you off my mind, I think about hundred thoughts and you are 99. I understand that you will never be mine, and that's fine, I'm just breaking inside.

During World War II, the United States government began to enforce food rationing to ensure that supplies would not run out. The government also began to look for creative solutions to provide food for its citizens. One of the most effective solutions was a national victory garden campaign instituted by the War Food Administration in 1941. The campaign encouraged people to grow vegetables in window boxes, rooftops, school grounds, backyards, city parks, and vacant lots. This would lessen the demand for commercially grown vegetables and help stretch the food supply as far as possible. The U.S. government began to produce inspirational posters and informational publications to educate the public about home gardening.
Victory gardens began to crop up across the United States, and in 1942, more than five million people participated in the program by purchasing and planting seeds. During the next year, more than 300,000 pressure cookers were sold to American families who wanted to can and store their homegrown vegetables. The home gardens were very successful, and in 1943, more than 20 million Americans were growing their own produce. By 1944, 40% of all vegetables in the U.S were grown in victory gardens. The victory garden campaign not only increased the amount of food available, but it also helped to maintain the morale of Americans on the home front.

Which word in this excerpt from H. G. Wells’s The War of the Worlds provides a context clue to the meaning of the word descended?

I was at home at that hour and writing in my study; and although my French windows face towards Ottershaw and the blind was up (for I loved in those days to look up at the night sky), I saw nothing of it. Yet this strangest of all things that ever came to earth from outer space must have fallen while I was sitting there, visible to me had I only looked up as it passed. Some of those who saw its flight say it travelled with a hissing sound. I myself heard nothing of that. Many people in Berkshire, Surrey, and Middlesex must have seen the fall of it, and, at most, have thought that another meteorite had descended. No one seems to have troubled to look for the fallen mass that night.

This creates a balanced and symmetrical effect, making the sentence easier to read and understand.

For example, a parallel sentence might be "I like to read books, write stories, and watch movies," where each item in the list follows the same verb structure "like to" followed by an object "read books," "write stories," and "watch movies."

Every fossil tells a story. A paleontologist is a scientist who studies fossils to learn what life was like on planet Earth long ago. Fossilized footprints help us understand an animal’s anatomy, size, weight and even behavior. We can see if it traveled in groups or tended to live alone. Fossilized teeth can give us hints about an animal’s diet. We can even learn about the landscape where a plant or animal lived. If there are fish fossils in what is now a desert, we might hypothesize that the landscape was once a body of water. Learning more about those fish fossils—like their age and what kind of water they lived in—will help us learn even more.

In one sentence, explain how a writer can show that a noun is a proper noun.

Answer:A proper noun is a specific name for a particular person, place, or thing. Proper nouns are always capitalized in English, no matter where they fall in a sentence. Because they endow nouns with a specific name, they are also sometimes called proper names.

Explanation:

Proper nouns are written with capital letters regardless of where they appear in a sentence. Proper nouns contrast with common nouns, which are the words for something (e.g., boy, dog, city, day). Common nouns are written with a capital letter only when they start a sentence.

There has been a controversy between animal rights supporters and scientists about whether it is right to use animals in experimental research. Also, it is very debatable whether using animals for such research results in finding a cure for diseases. From my point of view, if there are no other alternatives, and if it is possible that this will contribute to science, animals may be used for experimental research.

Although the animal rights activists claim that people and animals are equal and thus they should be treated equally, I think that people and animals cannot be seen equal, and therefore the death of an animal cannot be the same thing as the death of a person. For that reason, causing animals to die for science, for the sake of saving human lives, may be considered ethical to some extent if it will contribute to the advancement of science and will be to the benefit of humanity in general.

Furthermore, animal rights supporters label scientists as ‘cruel’ for causing animals to die in medical experiments, while they do not oppose the people, mostly farmers, who kill animals for food, even though they know that 99% of animals deaths is caused by farmers while only a small percentage, i.e. 1% is caused by scientists. The underlying reason for that is they find scientists easier to attack and cannot deal with farmers who are organized and strong.

Another basic argument of animal rights defenders is that people and animals are different genetically and therefore it is useless to use animals in experiments to see the effects of some substances on people. They claim that it will make no good to use animals in experiments because they are too different to be compared to people. Some of them even assert that it is better to use people directly as they think that the results of experiments on animals cannot be valid and reliable as long as the same observation has not been done on man also. However, these people cannot foresee the disastrous results of such a practice. Many people are likely to die until a healthy result is obtained.

People and animals may not be the same, but to some degree there are similarities which can at least give scientists an idea about their experiments. From this point of view, scientists are right to use animal models to provide themselves with information about what is happening at level of detail that could not be achieved in humans. Although there might have been some incidents when animal testing did not prove to be useful and some effects of some drugs observed on animals could not be observed on people, there are also a lot of examples that show that using animals resulted in significant developments and helped to cure some serious illnesses.

On the other hand, there may be alternative methods that should be used instead of animal experimentation. Then, of course, it is cruel and unethical to use animals. For example, in some experiments in-vitro methods can be used as an alternative to using live animals. In such occasions, it is certainly much better and right to employ these alternatives.

All in all, it can be said that using animals for medical research is ethical a long as it contributes to scientific development and helps scientists find ways to improve human health. And this practice is only acceptable on the condition that necessary pains are taken and animals are treated humanely.
