Sita and has to go through a quest in order to find her. In Ramayana culture is very important in the story. The authors builds on the traditional story to create a unique interpretation in many ways. Comparing both works the story and illustration the author builds tradition by the author having the story seem different than the illustration. For example, in the illustration Rama is hiding behind a tree but in the story he is the brave one and is always the leader, a quote from the story that demonstrates this when the author writes “strode before the magnanimous Raghava and Lakshmana.” I would say that the illustration does have a unique interpretation. In comparing the two works the change in medium does affect the way the important scenes are represented. For example, in the illustration the artists paints Rama blue. This indicates that his is a supreme Indian god and Rama is human form of this god. This example makes Rama stand out from everyone else drawn in the illustration. Another example, is when Surgiva is drawn without no clothes on the bottom right corner. If I was just to read the story I would expect Surgiva to be dressed like the rest of his family. This shows how the medium affects the important scenes compared on how we read it in the story and look at it in the illustration.
I found this online, hope it helps and I didn't get the book wrong or something!
