The hormone is carried by the nerve cells along their axons to the posterior pituitary gland, where it is released into the bloodstream. Anti-diuretic hormone works on the kidneys and blood arteries to lower blood pressure. Its primary function is to reduce the amount of water excreted in the urine, so conserving the volume of fluid in your body. It accomplishes this by permitting a specific region of the kidney to allow water from the urine to be taken back into the body. As a result, urine concentration increases, more water enters the bloodstream, and water loss is decreased.
