He Had His Dream
by Paul Dunbar

He had his dream, and all through life,

Worked up to it through toil and strife.

Afloat fore’er before his eyes,

It colored for him all his skies:

The storm–cloud dark

Above his bark,

The calm and listless vault of blue

Took on its hopeful hue,

It tinctured every passing beam—

He had his dream.

He labored hard and failed at last,

His sails too weak to bear the blast,

The raging tempests tore away

And sent his beating bark astray.

But what cared he

For wind or sea!

He said, “The tempest will be short,

My bark will come to port.”

He saw through every cloud a gleam—

He had his dream.

b.

Answers

Answer:

C. Metaphor

Explanation:

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid.

An instruction is a direction or order.

A question is a sentence worded or expressed so as to elicit information.

Therefore the answer is metaphor, because "If we could blossom out of ourselves, giving nothing imperfect, withholding nothing!" is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object.

Read the passage from "The Most Dangerous Game.”

"Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?"

"Swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker than walking through the jungle."

The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."

Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General Zaroff."

The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .

He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.
Which statement best describes how Rainsford solves his moral dilemma in this passage?

Rainsford calls a truce with the general even though he knows the general is a terrible man.
Although he believes that murder is wrong, Rainsford chooses to kill the general and end the game for good.
Instead of killing others or himself, Rainsford lets the general win the game but takes his bed.
Rainsford does not smile even though he is thrilled that he won the game.

if you read more we learn more if we learn more we become smarter write an essay on the importance of reading

Answers

Answer:

‘Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers’.  -Charles W. Elio-

A child's reading skills are important to their success in school as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them.

As part of our curriculum review at NAISAK, we have identified ‘reading’ as a key area for development and will be included in the school’s strategic development plan. With a busy timetable, teachers currently do not have enough time to listen to their children read as much as they would like to. That said, from today we have made some adjustments to the start of the day with the registration period being extended to 20 minutes, with a slightly shorter first lesson. This will allow students from across the Primary Stage to all start their day reading to either their teacher, learning support assistant, buddy or on their own. Additionally, all Primary teachers, including the Leadership Team, have new reading timetables allowing them to listen to individual readers who have been identified as needing extra support for a number of hours per week. We are hopeful that the changes made to both the students and teachers’ timetables will prove impactful and will help to accelerate reading progress across the Primary School. We will continue to update you over the coming term with further reading initiatives.

Why is reading so important?

Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children’s educational performance. Likewise, evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who do not, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.

In fact, reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background.

What difference can I make as a parent?

You can make a huge difference! Parents are the most important educators in a child’s life – even more important than their teachers – and it is never too early to start reading together.

Even before they were born, babies learn to recognise their parents' voices. Reading to your baby from birth, even for just a few minutes a day, gives them the comfort of hearing your voice and increases their exposure to language.

For there lay The Combs--the set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped long in a Broadway window. Beautiful combs, pure tortoise shell, with jewelled rims--just the shade to wear in the beautiful vanished hair. They were expensive combs, she knew, and her heart had simply craved and yearned over them without the least hope of possession. And now, they were hers, but the tresses that should have adorned the coveted adornments were gone. But she hugged them to her bosom, and at length she was able to look up with dim eyes and a smile and say: "My hair grows so fast, Jim! And them Della leaped up like a little singed cat and cried, "Oh, oh!" Jim had not yet seen his beautiful present. She held it out to him eagerly upon her open palm. The dull precious metal seemed to flash with a reflection of her bright and ardent spirit."Isn't it a dandy, Jim? I hunted all over town to find it. You'll have to look at the time a hundred times a day now. Give me your watch. I want to see how it looks on it." Instead of obeying, Jim tumbled down on the couch and put his hands under the back of his head and smiled."Della," said he, "let's put our Christmas presents away and keep 'em a while. They're too nice to use just at present. I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on." The magi, as you know, were wise men--wonderfully wise men--who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger. They invented the art of giving Christmas presents. Being wise, their gifts were no doubt wise ones, possibly bearing the privilege of exchange in case of duplication. And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest.
