Which two details in Daliah’s campaign speech support her challenge of the opposition’s claim that classroom libraries are sufficient?

To the avid readers out there, I know that we do not currently have a school librarian, and our access to the library is limited. This is unacceptable, and I intend to address the problem if you elect me as student president.

All of you are tired of spending your own money to buy books for the library and for yourselves. I understand that the school’s budget was reduced due to cuts in funding from the state. But how are we supposed to grow as readers if the library is closed most of the time and can only be used to conduct research as scheduled by homeroom teachers?

The school, in partnership with the PTA, conducts many fundraisers to provide funds for the sports teams and STEM activities. Yes, I understand the importance those two opportunities; however, research shows that the more access students have to books, the more student achievement improves on state and district assessments. Research also shows that the more we read, the more we learn about different cultures. The result is that we become more open minded, and we can develop more compassion and empathy for others. All of those things are important to our growth as students and as contributors to society.

To those arguing that our English and reading teachers have classroom libraries, I say that that’s not enough. Those teachers stock classroom libraries using their own money and donations from crowdfunding sources. They take those books with them when they move to other schools or jobs, and then a new teacher has to take time to rebuild that classroom library while readers are left high and dry. That’s unfair, don’t you think? Yes, school district should do a better job of ensuring all schools have libraries and librarians. Yes, schools should do a better job of finding ways to equally fund all initiatives on campus. So, I will present a solution until those in charge can do better.

I propose working with the PTA to increase fundraising efforts so that the campus can hire a part-time librarian. This part-time staff member will work on campus three days a week during the times when we have interventions, homeroom, and club time. Until we can find our part-time librarian, I will also start a petition to share a librarian with our neighboring elementary school to work on our campus twice a week for three hours in the afternoon.

Answer:

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

The two details in Daliah’s campaign speech that supports her challenge of the opposition’s claim that classroom libraries are sufficient are:

Those teachers stock classroom libraries using their own money and donations from crowdfunding sources. They take those books with them when they move to other schools or jobs, and then a new teacher has to take time to rebuild that classroom library while readers are left high and dry.

What is a Rebuttal?

This refers to the counterargument that is used to disprove a point about something.

Hence, we can see that Daliah made use of rebuttals to disprove the point of her opposition that the classroom libraries are sufficient by stating that they were publicly funded and poorly stacked.

Which two details best develop the central idea about Julius Caesar?

Dictatorships

by Hal Marcovitz

(excerpt from “The Rise of Julius Caesar”)

"Sulla was a brutal and relentless dictator". But one enemy who escaped his wrath was Gaius Julius Caesar. "Caesar was born in 100 BCE to a wealthy family"." As a nephew of Sulla’s opponent Marius, Caesar found himself on Sulla’s list of enemies". No doubt he too would have been killed, but his family intervened, and Sulla reluctantly spared his life. "Next, Sulla ordered Caesar to divorce his wife". "Caesar refused and fled the city". He joined a Roman army campaigning in Turkey and did not return until after Sulla’s death in 78 BCE.

A Bee Mystery

Recent surveys around the world have found some very sad and troubling news. Bees are not doing well. According to Time: Science & Space, "an estimated ten million beehives ... have been lost since 2006." What's worse, scientists are not sure why. Most beekeepers will tell you that bees tend to die in large numbers every spring. This is normal and necessary to keep a hive of bees healthy. But when the deaths add up to more than half the bees in an entire country, that is something altogether different and dire. Scientists have called this "colony-collapse disorder" or CCD. This name describes the effect, though, and not the cause of the die-out. Scientists simply do not know what is killing the bees.

Many things make it hard for bees. Varroa mites move into a colony and weaken it. Further, these mites carry viruses that attack those that survive. In addition, a new bacterium was recently discovered that attacks bees intestinally and kills them. Beekeepers go to great lengths to protect bees from these invaders, and for many years have been able to control them. All these attackers and the methods used to combat them do stress the bees, however.

Many feel the problem is not some new threat, but a decline in the habitat available to bees. Development of grasslands once home to wild flowers and food for bees has been universal. Pavement makes it easy to drive, but it replaces wild grasses and other food sources for bees. Perhaps, long before the mites and parasites moved in, humans took away enough of the bees' habitat to weaken their health. We plowed under a varied habitat and planted—in many cases—a single plant like beets. Then we sprayed all kinds of chemicals on the beets to keep other bugs away and in doing so also harmed bees. Now, to treat all the mites and other invaders, bee keepers use additional chemicals to kill the invaders. These chemicals also shorten the life of the bees. Have the use of chemicals, loss of habitat, and invading parasites made life impossible for bees? Experts continue to argue various theories, but few have any answers.

Colony collapse disorder is perhaps one of the most mysterious problems modern science has tried to solve. Whether the problem is environmental or an unknown disease, we will all feel the effects if bees continue to decline. Bees affect almost every aspect of the human food chain. From the fruits, vegetables, and grains we eat, to the grasses and grains we feed our livestock, we depend on bees to keep us healthy. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, bees account for 15 billion dollars in crops. Honey is a treasure for sure, but the real gold is in the strawberries, apples, peaches, and green beans we eat and need to stay healthy ourselves. All told, the outlook for bees is not good. The outlook for humans may not "bee" so good either.

Read this sentence from the text:

Perhaps, long before the mites and parasites moved in, humans took away enough of the bees' habitat to weaken their health.

How does this line function in the text?

It adds a reason that supports the thesis.
It provides general information about the topic.
It is the thesis of the article.

Answers

Answer:

A) It adds a reason that supports the thesis.

Explanation:

This line is in the body of the essay (Perhaps, long before the mites and parasites moved in, humans took away enough of the bees' habitat to weaken their health.)

The essay's body must contain three reasons supporting your theme. The most typical essay structure calls for five paragraphs: an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on a different point and elaborates on it. Use quotations to bolster your points. Learn the appropriate citation format.

Read the following informational text and answer the question that follows:
"In today's schools, there is no reason to have an English class read a novel that is over 50 years old. A story written that long ago will not have
any value to the students of today. We live in an age of cell phones, video games, and the internet; things that were never imagined by the
characters in these stories. It is impossible for students to relate to these characters since they will never be seen facing a similar problem that
students face today."
What is the central idea of this text?
A. The decline of students' grades is due to older novels.
B. Students should not read older novels because they can't relate to the characters.
C. Today's schools can't relate to students.
D. Today's students don't like to read.

Answers

The central idea of the text is that the students should not read older novels because they can't relate to the characters.

From the text, it was explained that students should not be made to read a novel of about 50 years ago and those kind of novels aren't valuable anymore.

It is impossible for the students to relate to such characters as we now live in an internet age which wasn't depicted by the characters.

Therefore, students should not read older novels because they can't relate to the characters.

What aspects of semantics did you enjoy most? Discuss it?

Answers

Hi. This question requires a personal answer, as she wants to know what aspect of semantics you most enjoyed studying and understanding. In that case, I can't answer your question, but I can help you arrive at a correct answer.

First, it is important that you know what semantics are. Semantics is a science that studies how a communication vehicle should be interpreted and the meanings that this language provides. A communication vehicle can be a text, a song, a conversation between two people, among other things that allow a type of communication to be established. In this case, semantics studies words, textual structures, intonations, expressions and sentences within a context.

The aspects of semantics refer to everything that makes up the analyzed semantics, that is, the tone of voice of the speakers, the punctuation used in the text, the existence of figures of speech, the use of grammatical classes and even the size of the text and conversation. In this case, for you to present the aspect of the semantics that you liked the most, you should evaluate which of these aspects do you think is more important for you to analyze the meaning of a communication. You can use the paragraph below as a template for your answer.

The aspect of semantics that I like the most is the speaker's tone of voice, as it allows the listener to perceive the speaker's intention when communicating, which makes it easier for the meaning of the message to be understood. The tone of voice is an aspect that is lacking in text messages and can lead to incorrect interpretations of the meanings of the messages, since the tone of voice between speakers is omitted.

In a text, punctuation is my favorite semantic aspect, as it organizes the sentences, presents the intentions of the narrator or speaker, presents intonation and shows how the text should be read.
