Explanation:

Herbivorous insects tend to be highly specialized in their use of host plants. Populations of gall wasp B. treatae inhabit two sister species of live oak, Quercus virginiana and Q. geminata, which geographically overlap in the southeastern United States. The habitat of each oak differs slightly, with Q. virginiana occurring in sites that are more moist, more nutrient rich, and have higher pH. Q. virginiana has larger, tougher leaves and earlier flowering times.

How can conditions in the live oak habitats lead to speciation in gall wasps?

Answers

Answer:

There would be natural variation in a population of gall wasps. This would mean that some members would be at an advantage in the first kind of live oak while others in the population would have traits that provide them an advantage in the other kind of live oak. Over time, the gall wasps would become even more specialized to living in the specific live oaks. This habitat isolation would build a reproductive barrier that would allow the two gall wasp populations to become more genetically different over time. At some point, the populations will become different enough that they can no longer interbreed. At this point, they would be considered different species.

In what two ways does the author support his argument, in paragraphs 1 and 2 of "What is an American?"

Answers

Answer:

An American

The meaning of the word American in the English language varies according to the historical, geographical, and political context in which it is used. American is derived from America, a term originally denoting all of the New World (also called the Americas). In some expressions, it retains this Pan-American sense, but its usage has evolved over time and, for various historical reasons, the word came to denote people or things specifically from the United States of America.

In modern English, American generally refers to persons or things related to the United States of America; among native English speakers this usage is almost universal, with any other use of the term requiring specification.[1] However, this usage is seen by some as a semantic "misappropriation" by those who argue that "American" should be widened in English to also include people or things from anywhere in the American continents.[2][3]

The word can be used as either an adjective or a noun (viz. a demonym). In adjectival use, it means "of or relating to the United States"; for example, "Elvis Presley was an American singer" or "the man prefers American English". In its noun form, the word generally means a resident or citizen of the US, but is also used for someone whose ethnic identity is simply "American" (Euro-American). The noun is rarely used in English to refer to people not connected to the United States when intending a geographical meaning.[1] When used with a grammatical qualifier, the adjective American can mean "of or relating to the Americas", as in Latin American or Indigenous American. Less frequently, the adjective can take this meaning without a qualifier, as in "American Spanish dialects and pronunciation differ by country", or the name of the Organization of American States. A third use of the term pertains specifically to the indigenous peoples of the Americas, for instance, "In the 16th century, many Americans died from imported diseases during the European conquest", though this usage is rare, as "indigenous", "First Nations" or "Amerindian" are considered less confusing and generally more appropriate.

Compound constructions which indicate a minority ethnic group, such as "African-Americans" likewise refer exclusively to people in or from the United States of America, as does the prefix "Americo-". For instance, the Americo-Liberians and their language Merico derive their name from the fact that they are descended from African-American settlers, i.e. Blacks who were formerly enslaved in the United States of America.

Private school in Nepal

Over the last three decades, Nepal has seen a massive surge in private schools. In Kathmandu, nearly 70% of students attend private schools.

These private schools provide students with a much higher quality of education than public schools. However, almost all private schools function like profit-oriented firms. There are several private schools in Nepal that have been able to establish themselves as good educational institutions in certain places due to their successful value-based education efforts.

One of the advantages of having a private school in Nepal is that the language of instruction and communication is English. In private schools, everyone is encouraged to speak in English, while in the public schools, Nepali is used. Private schools have more resources compared to the public ones. Teacher motivation is also greater in private counterparts.

Some of the drawbacks of private school in Nepal are high tuition fees due to privatization of education. It has also resulted in large class sizes, less qualified and part-time teachers. Most of the resources are devoted to marketing in attractive school buildings and well-equipped classrooms, but they promote fixed-term contracts, low wages and long working hours for teachers.

The existence of private school and the public school in Nepal has caused confusion regarding the provision of quality education. The schools should have a holistic approach to adopt to better their institutions and education system.

Drama: The Best Form of Entertainment

Today, there are a lot of means to entertain oneself, for example, a person can watch movies, read books, or see ball games. If given the choice, would pick going to a theater to watch a play over anything else. Plays are unique because a playwright depends on dialogue to keep the audience Informed about the plot. Plays do not have elaborate visual effects or descriptive paragraphs, so only dialogue can be used to show action. A good play creates dramatic tension, and I believe everyone enjoys any form of entertainment that has dramatic tension. Moreover, watching a play is a more personal experience than any other form of entertainment. Sometimes the audience can be part of the action happening in the drama, which is simply not possible in films. Additionally, I think plays are the best form of entertainment due to the actors' talent, because unlike movies, stage actors do not have the option of doing multiple takes. Since they are performing live, they have to deliver their dialogue perfectly. Everyone should try watching at least one play in a year.

That was six years before the Wright brothers took their famous first airplane flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Over the next two decades, aviation developed rapidly, but the pilots at the controls were mainly men. Amelia Earhart broke through that barrier to become a famous aviator, and she paved the way for women who followed. Amelia Takes OffAmelia took her first flying lesson in 1921. At the end of the year, she received her pilots license. She took odd jobs and received financial help from her mother to buy her own airplane. With a plane of her own, Amelia quickly began making a name for herself in the aviation world. In October 1922, she broke a world record for female pilots by flying her plane to 14,000 feet in altitude. In 1923, she received her International Pilots Licensejust the sixteenth woman in the world to do so. Unfortunately, Amelia had to sell her plane to give her mother money, and for a while, her love of aviation became more of a hobby. But this all changed in 1928 when Amelia was contacted by publisher George Putnam, who she later married. He invited her to be a passenger on a cross-Atlantic flight. Amelia would have preferred to be the pilot, not the passenger, but at the time, flying a plane over an ocean was considered too dangerous for women. The flight was successful, and Amelia became world-famous as the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. However, Amelia was not satisfied. She did not get to operate the controls during the flight and thought of herself as being no more important to the flights success than a sack of potatoes. She was determined to fly on her own.Amelia Reaches StardomIn 1929, Amelia became involved with an organization called the Ninety-Nines, a group that promoted female pilots in the aviation industry. She was the groups first president. In May of 1932, Amelia crossed the Atlantic again, but this time she was at the controls. She made the trip from Canada to Ireland in 15 hours. She received many medals and awards for her achievement.Amelia hoped her success would open doors for women in aviation and in other fields, so she continued flying and setting records. She became the first person to fly across both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans when she flew from Hawaii to California. An Extraordinary MissionEven after proving she was a world-class aviator, Amelia still wanted more. In 1937, she set off on an amazing trip: flying around the world. Amelia started in California but faced trouble along the way.
